This 3000 sq. ft., 3-bed, 3-bath house was built in two phases, separated by over a decade. To pay homage to the area’s history, the sloped roof of the structure’s three segments mimics an assembly of agricultural sheds, aligned in a way that parallels the distant mountains. A sheltered courtyard nestles between the segments, and steel structures surround the entire exterior, providing a sense of space and arrival, as well as interesting shadow-play. The corrugated steel roof was left untreated, to encourage an organic patina over time.
One of the owners is an artist, so the interior was designed with gallery lighting and plenty of unbroken wall space. A plethora of windows and rustic shiplap ceilings keep things cozy and bright.
