Magee Design Works is a high-performance residential design/build firm, located in Taos and focused on resiliency, climate-responsiveness, low waste, and long-term sustainability.
For almost 50 years, the Magee name has been synonymous with high-end custom homes. Jed Magee started building alongside his father while still in high school. He earned an architecture degree at the University of New Mexico and worked with other firms in Albuquerque and Taos before founding his own business in 2008.
Magee Design Works has a team-based approach, rooted in transparency, mutual admiration, and collaboration. We partner with the most talented and dependable architects, interior designers, builders, vendors, engineers, and subs. This ensures a consistent, detail-oriented outcome that honors our regional history and our natural environment.
In the past five years, we’ve built more homes in Taos Ski Valley than any other builder. This means we craft beautiful homes at top elevations, to withstand a harsh winter climate. You can find us at the intersection of high-tech engineering, efficient materials, creative problem-solving, and encyclopedic local knowledge.

JED MAGEE
Jed Magee is a lifelong Taos resident, born and raised in the design and construction industry Jed has been designing and building houses for over twenty years alongside his Father Vishu, and his brother Aaron. In Taos, the name Magee is the most recognized name in the business.
Jed’s formal education is from the School of Architecture and planning at the University of New Mexico.
Today Jed has become one of the premier designer/builders in Taos and has evolved his business into a top quality company. Jed’s skills bring an eye for design details, a comprehensive understanding of construction and balanced approach to quality & cost.
Off the job, Jed is an avid outdoor enthusiast and enjoys skiing, mountain biking, river trips and camping. At home, Jed is a beekeeper, raises chickens and loves to grow organic food in the gardens.
Jed is married to his High School sweetheart, Shayla and together they have two grown sons, Kieron and Skylar.
DOMINIC DURAN
I have two biological brothers and if there is a such a thing as a non-biological brother Dominic is it!
Dominic owns Duran Construction. His specialities range widely from precision heavy equipment operator, concrete, welding and general construction. Not only can he do it all himself Dominic employs a ten plus team of talented guys that we lovingly refer to as the “Duranimal’s”.
I’ve known Dominic since we were kids and I’ve never built anything without him.
Not only is Dominic my go to for getting the the big stuff done, he’s also on the short list of people I’d trust my families life with. Seriously!
Dominic works hard on the big machines and plays hard on his Harley, ATV’s and snowmobiles. He has a teenage son and is a recent father to an adorable baby boy with his lovely lady, Amanda.
